Bisoprolol Fumarate 2.5 mg Film-coated Tablets

Why is bisoprolol used?

  • This medication is used to treat high blood pressure.

Do not use bisoprolol.

  • If you are allergic to the active ingredients or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Warnings and Precautions:

  • You have severe asthma or chronic lung disease.
  • You have a severe problem with blood circulation in your extremities (such as Raynaud's syndrome), which may cause your fingers and toes to cramp or turn pale or blue.
  • You have an untreated malignant tumor, a rare type of adrenal gland tumor.
  • You have metabolic acidosis, a condition when there is too much acid in your blood.
  • Acute heart failure or heart failure that suddenly becomes worse and/or that may require hospitalization.
  • Slow heart rate.
  • Severe drop in blood pressure.
  • A certain heart condition that causes a very slow heart rate or an irregular heartbeat.
  • Cardiogenic shock, a severe acute heart condition that causes low blood pressure and circulatory failure.

If you have any of the following conditions:

  • Diabetes.
  • Strict fasting (fasting from solid food).
  • Certain heart conditions such as an irregular heart rhythm or severe chest pain while at rest (Prinzmetal's angina).
  • kidney or liver disease
  • Circulation problems are less severe in your extremities.
  • Less severe asthma or chronic lung disease.
  • History of scaly skin rash (psoriasis).
  • Adrenal gland (medullary) tumor (pheochromocytoma).
  • Thyroid disorder.

Possible side effects

  • Stop using the product and seek immediate medical attention if you experience tightness in the throat, swelling of the eyes, face, lips, or tongue, feel faint, or have difficulty breathing.
  • Stop using the product if you experience hives or itching on the face or body.

Other medications Bisoprolol

  • Blood pressure control medications or heart problems medications (such as amiodarone, amlodipine, clonidine, digitalis glycosides, diltiazem, disopyramide, felodipine, flecainide, lidocaine, methyldopa, moxonidine, phenytoin, propafenone, quinidine, rilmenidine).
  • Antidepressants such as imipramine, amitriptyline, moclobemide.
  • Medications for mental illness such as phenothiazines like levomepromazine.
  • Medicines used for anesthesia during surgery (see also "Take care with bisoprolol tablets").
  • Medicines used to treat epilepsy, for example, barbiturates such as phenobarbital.
  • Some pain relievers (such as acetylsalicylic acid, diclofenac, indomethacin, ibuprofen, and naproxen).
  • Asthma medications or medications used to treat nasal congestion.
  • Medicines used for certain eye disorders such as glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye) or used to dilate the pupil.
  • Some medications to treat clinical shock (eg, adrenaline, dobutamine, noradrenaline).
  • Mefloquine, an antimalarial drug.
  • All of these medications, as well as bisoprolol, may affect blood pressure and/or heart function.
  • Rifampicin for the treatment of infections.
  • Medicines for severe headaches or migraines (ergotamine derivatives).

How to use bisoprolol

Treatment with bisoprolol fumarate tablet should be started at a low dose and gradually increased.

Your doctor will decide how to increase your dose, and this is usually done in the following way:

  • 25 mg bisoprolol fumarate once daily for one week.
  • 5 mg bisoprolol fumarate once daily for one week.
  • 75 mg bisoprolol fumarate once daily for one week.
  • 5 mg bisoprolol fumarate once daily for four weeks.
  • 5 mg bisoprolol fumarate once daily for four weeks.
  • 10 mg bisoprolol fumarate once daily for maintenance treatment.
  • The maximum recommended daily dose of bisoprolol fumarate is 10 mg.

How to store bisoprolol :

  • Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date printed on the carton.
  • The expiration date refers to the last day of that month.
  • Do not store above 30°C. Keep the container tightly closed.
  • Do not use if you notice any damage to the outer packaging.
  • Do not dispose of any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
